C4CC Changes a “C”, Vows to Work on Additional Consumer Issues INDIANAPOLIS (July 9, 2007) Consumers for Cable Choice today announced that it has expanded its focus and amended its name to recognize that wider range of consumer advocacy.

Still using the C4CC acronym, the national coalition of more than one million consumer groups and individuals has been renamed Consumers for Competitive Choice. In addition to working for competition in the cable television industry, C4CC will also work for proconsumer policies across retail markets.

“This expansion will enable us to address a wide array of communications issues and to venture into other areas where consumers support a competitive marketplace,” said C4CC President Robert K. Johnson. “We’ll also work to bring more technology to elementary and secondary education and the healthcare industry.”

Among the topics of C4CC’s expanded focus include the development of broadband and energy infrastructure, efficient use of the public spectrum and implementation of consumer-friendly medical and educational technology.

C4CC was launched in 2005 to support cable competition as a way to reduce prices and improve quality for the service. Since that time, 10 states have enacted cable competition laws and federal policy changes enable competition to emerge more quickly in other states.
